To Believe

“Only if one believes in something can one act purposefully.”

According to its definition to believe is to have confidence or faith in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something or someone, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so.

The word believe holds different meanings for many people. For instance, it can speak to a person’s self-confidence. The ability to believe in oneself can help one become successful, overcome obstacles, and persevere through life.

Our belief in another person helps fuel their determination and self-confidence. To have encouragement from another is sometimes a luxury most do not have. Expressing praise is a gift for the receiver however it reveals the integrity and character of the giver as well.

Religiously or spiritually it can mean to believe in something greater than oneself. Whether that greater power is referred to as God, Light, Source, Universe, Spirit, etc, does not matter because that credence brings love, peace, and comfort to all those who believe. Many believe this greater power is everywhere, in everything, and within everyone and if they work with it instead of against it they can do the impossible and be the unbelievable.

The power of belief does not necessarily have to hold any religious connotations to it. One can still believe in love, life, friends, family, and humanity. People can believe in themselves and the positive difference they can make in the world. Everyone can find something to believe in.

Our belief in anything helps bring it into our respective realities. A simple belief can manifest into a tangible dream. What we determine to be true stems from a steadfast belief. Something is real because of the belief it is. Whatever exists persists because of a belief.

Believing in a belief which no longer serves a person can be harmful. When believing in something or someone hurts anyone, that means a conviction is hindering growth and progress. In this case an evaluation is necessary so positive changes can occur.

The act of believing should always empower, enlighten, and inspire.
